In addition to a smattering of creative writing and English literature courses at Western University and Fanshawe College, Ellie Sipila attended Ryerson University for copy, stylistic, and substantive editing. She has earned a specialization in editing books intended for young readers (picture books, middle grade, and young adult). She is a member of the Editors' Association of Canada and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Her list of clients includes scholarly writers, fiction novelists, short story writers, nonfiction essayists, bloggers, and her husband, who doesn't know he needs an editor until Ellie happens upon one of his handwritten shopping lists or dorky rap verses.
Never one to go half way into a thing, Ellie decided to round out her education with courses in book design, print production, typesetting, and digital book production. She now has almost enough credits to graduate a second time. But still she returns to school every now and then to update her skills or to learn something new. It turns out Ellie is destined to be a life-long student.
Ellie spent some years doing the editorial, design, and production work for a few presses (not all at the same time), before finding her happy place as the in-house production manager of Second Story Press in Toronto, Ontario. Ellie handles all of the design and production work for Move to the Write.
Ellie is a published author too. BIG NEWS COMING SOON ABOUT HER FIRST MIDDLE GRADE CREATIVE NONFICTION TITLE, MARK-NAPPED!, WHICH WILL RELEASE FROM PELICAN PUBLISHING COMPANY IN THE SPRING OF 2019 (yes, we're so excited we did that all in caps).
